Christian Foundation Classes:

The foundations of our Lutheran faith were outlined for us in the small catechism by Martin Luther. He wanted it taught by the head of the family in the simplest form to those in his household. Luther wanted to lead children to know and believe that the only way of salvation is by faith in Jesus. The small catechism is simple and includes all the main teachings of our Lutheran faith.
Therefore, we use the small catechism as an outline for our Christian Foundation events. They are attended by 2nd through 5th graders and their families (parents, grandparents, etc.) It is through these intergenerational events that families will be able to continue their faith journeys together growing in faith and love.

Faith Milestone Ministry

Faith Milestone ministry at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church is our way of recognizing and encouraging growth in faith within our children and their families from birth to high school graduation. Faith takes time to grow and needs to be continually nurtured. Faith growth does not start and stop at the front door of the church on Sunday morning. It is an important part of our daily lives. We will help to build faith in the family by having learning times and special blessing services in which we will recognize the child and their family in their achievements and growth within our faith community. The families will also have the opportunity to recommit to implementing faith practices within their homes. This will help their family to grow in their faith together. The parents are the best people to teach their children! The church is here to support, pray, encourage, and celebrate with you!

Family Faith Practices
The church will recognize the children and their families at these times. (bold type) We encourage our families to add a different faith practice to their daily routines at these times also, if not before:

Infants The parents bless the child daily and has them baptized.
Birth Blessing, Baptism, Baptism birthday

the Bible together.
Recognize beginning of Sunday School.

Recognition for completing Christian Foundation classes.

Confirmation:
The purpose of Confirmation at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church is to equip our youth, grades 8 and 9, so that they may "continue in the covenant God made with them in Holy Baptism:
to live among God's faithful people,
to hear God's Word and share in his supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ
through word and deed, to serve all people,
following the example of our Lord Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth."
(words from the Affirmation of Baptism service, LBW)

Christian growth is a lifelong process that takes place through worship, prayer, education and service; therefore, confirmands will be given opportunities to learn about important people and events in the Bible, to learn the central teachings of the ELCA and to offer service opportunities in the church and the community.

The Confirmation Program at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church is a two year process beginning at the end of 7th grade with the attendance of Campfirmation. Each year consists of two terms, fall and spring, and meets during the Faith Formation hour every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Additional events and activities will be scheduled at the discretion of the pastor and/or Confirmation leaders. Over the two year period, confirmands will study the basic parts of Luther's Small Catechism, including the Ten Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, and the sacraments of Holy Communion and Holy Baptism. They will also study the Holy Bible and look at a variety of Bible stories learning to interpret them and their message to make them a guide for us today as active disciples of Christ.
