SOCIAL MINISTRY has two committees:.
-
The Congregational Care Committee meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the church parlor.
It is open to all Cross and Crown members.

The Congregational Care Committee is focused on ministering to the special needs or concerns of congregational members, and keeping these members enfolded in the church family while they are homebound or in a crisis situation. The committee does this through:

Care Meals: Members prepare meals for those who are ill, had an injury, suffered a death in their family, or whenever else Care Meals are needed;

Squares of Love: Members make beautiful, colorful quilts and lap shawls for those who are Ill, injured, had a death in their family, or are experiencing other difficult times; and
-
The Sonshine Ministry: These members visit the homebound and give them warm quilts, lap shawls, meals and other signs of God's love.

The Community Care Committee reaches out into the community and world in many ways to provide help to needs beyond Cross and Crown's church doors.

FAMILY PROMISE OF CHARLOTTE is a network of churches that provide shelter, food and support for homeless families by hosting them for a week, four times a year, in the church building. When the families are at Cross and Crown, members provide meals, and serve as daytime, evening, and overnight hosts.

MATTHEWS HELP CENTER provides help to Matthews area people in need. Cross and Crown members deliver monthly food donations to its food pantry.

HOPE TEAM is a group of members who mentor and assist a family that is making the transition from homelessness to independence.

ANGEL TREE consists of four or five families "adopted" each Christmas season for which Cross and Crown members buy and donate appropriate gifts to the parents and children to brighten their Christmas.

CROP WALK enlists Cross and Crown walkers, among many others, to participate in its annual October event that raises money for local and international food banks.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SHELTERS are places Cross and Crown members periodically make donations of coats, clothing and toiletries, and provide meals at various times during the year.

A CHILD'S PLACE assists homeless children in the school system with clothing and school supplies through donations of these items from Cross and Crown and other caring groups.

EPIPHANY MINISTRY is an ecumenical organization founded on the belief young people in trouble need to experience God and God's love. Cross and Crown members serve on a team that regularly visits Stonewall Jackson Detention Center.

MATTHEWS ALIVE is an annual Labor Day weekend street festival, from which all the profits are given to non-profit organizations that help to run the event. Cross and Crown members staff game or information booths each year.

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY is a program in which Cross and Crown members bi-annually pick up litter on a designated near-by roadway to help keep the community clean and beautiful.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY is helped by Cross and Crown members who provide lunch to local workers, work on a local house, and donate money to Habitat's work.
Global Ministries supported:

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF, an agency meeting needs around the world, receives quilts and health kits from Cross and Crown to aid LWR in its work.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD is helped by Cross and Crown members who fill shoe boxes with supplies, toys and candy for Samaritan's Purse to give to children around the globe. Also, church members annually work at the Operation Christmas Child Warehouse to sort and pack shoe boxes that arrive there from across the country to be shipped overseas.
